Speaking In Galei Tzahal this morning, Israel's former ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, commented In the recent decision of the UN Human Rights Council to investigate Israel for "systematic discrimination and repression" during the most recent conflict with Gaza."In theory, the investigation examines all sides of the issue - however, in practise, we know the outcome already," he said. "We are already familiar with this organization which instead of condemning Hamas, is taking the course it has always taken in the past. Palestinian Authority representatives have been in touch with representatives from Islamic countries. We should be considering exacting a steep price from the PA for its state terror activities against us."

Russia has stepped into the escalating international row over the downing of an airplane in Belarus by barring European planes from flying to Moscow. The Guardian reports that the move follows decisions by two European carriers, Austrian Airlines and Air France, to post new routes that avoid entering Belarus' airspace (as per the recommendation of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency). As a result of Russia's new policy, Austrian Airlines was forced to cancel a flight from Vienna to Moscow, and Air France cancelled its Paris-Moscow flight for the second consecutive day.The UN's International Civil Aviation Organization has announced that it will be investigating Belarus' decision to force an airplane carrying a government critic to land in its capital, Minsk. The critic was then arrested.

Labor Party chairwoman MK Merav Michaeli criticized the UN Human Rights Council's decision to investigate Israel for "war crimes" it allegedly committed in Operation Guardian of the Walls."The State of Israel has the full right to defend itself against Hamas terrorism. I trust the Israeli legal system and condemn the UN Human Rights Council for its shameful decision. This is another reminder to the citizens of Israel that we must act to change the strategy that Netanyahu chose, to stop transferring the suitcases of dollars immediately and to work to weaken Hamas," Michaeli said.
